Shipwreck Sunset Timelapse at Motney Hill, Gillingham

Updated: May 18, 2022

After my recent sunrise Timelapse at Herne Bay, I thought that it was only right that I now go and capture a sunset :) With the assistance of the app Photopills, I planned my position although on this occasion I couldn't really get any further back to shoot tighter than 200mm. The bigger the zoom, the larger the sun in comparison to the subject. I always try to back up as far as possible. After approximately 20 minutes of exposures, set to every 5 seconds I then rendered the clip to 24 frames per second at 4k in camera. Below is a 1080p export from Davinci resolve. I did on this occasion have to correct some camera shake in DaVinci resolve as it was a little bit windy!

After completing the Timelapse I headed back to the car and come across this beautifully shaped stream with the tide just starting to come in. I took a bracketed HDR on my Panasonic S5 and my iPhone and was very pleased with the results on both. That orange glow and reflection! Not bad for the UK. I've also uploaded a single frame edit from the Timelapse video above.
