Professional photo retouching with Evoto

Whilst I understand the hesitancy surrounding AI and the occasionally frustrating application of Artificial Intelligence among fellow creatives, there are undeniably some excellent use cases for it.

I recently trialled Evoto AI, a desktop software akin to Adobe Lightroom in its features, but with the added ability to retouch skin, repair hair, fix makeup, and reshape parts of the body, all through the use of Lightroom-style sliders. These edits can achieve a very high Photoshop-level standard in just a matter of minutes.

One of its standout features is the ability to save presets, enabling large-scale skin edits for projects such as weddings and events.

Traditionally, using Photoshop would require 30–40 minutes per photo, making it impractical to edit 100 wedding images to magazine-standard quality due to the time and cost involved. Photographers might instead soften skin using the colour range selection in Adobe Lightroom and make a few minor adjustments. However, achieving a full, professional-level retouch on a bulk scale was simply unfeasible—until now.

Of course, not every wedding will call for full skin retouching, as some clients prefer their images to look as natural as possible. However, there will always be exceptions, and having Evoto as part of our toolkit provides an excellent solution for those cases.

I’ve also used it for recent collaborations, as I find it hard to justify spending 40 minutes editing each photo when I can achieve 95% of the same results using AI.

Embracing new technology is crucial. Too often, I’ve witnessed people resist or ignore technological advancements, only to regret it later—whether in the printing industry or other creative fields.

AI can undoubtedly seem daunting, but it also holds exciting possibilities. I share all my thoughts on this topic in the video below.
