Flowy Yellow Dress Photoshoot at Belle Tout Lighthouse, Sussex

I’ve had this shot in mind since the red dress Bodiam castle photoshoot last summer.

I can’t pinpoint where this idea came from, whether it was inspired by something I’d seen online or come to me as a vision in my sleep 🙂

Anyhow, all I knew was that it had to have a yellow dress, a lighthouse and a sunset to match.

We considered a few lighthouses for this shoot, the lighthouse at Joss Bay, another at Dover but went for the safe option of Belle Tout lighthouse in the end as we knew it would be easily accessible.

The others had visible fences when checking on Google maps so time would have been limited and access could have involved climbing and trespassing. I’ll save that for an urban explore photoshoot on another day 😉.

Nicola’s selection of outfit was almost perfect, the yellow was a bit more pastel in reality but it was easy to warm up with some minor editing in Adobe Photoshop.

The flowy dress technique was easy to execute as her dress was nice and long. We had Nicola’s daughter pull and hold the dress out and then release it half a second before I pulled the trigger for it to be captured naturally flowing and falling through the air.

This shot was actually one full take where as the red dress Bodiam shoot last year required a bit of layered merging. Blog post linked below for that shoot.

With regards to Nicola’s daughter pulling the dress out, we had to take one shot with her in the frame for the scene to work and then another with her out of the frame and then merge the left side of the picture from the second shot using Adobe Photoshop so that her daughter disappears completely.

The final scene with a couple of other shots below:
